Term Brokers Insurance Services

For Jana and Chris McDonald, the insurance business is a family business. With a combined history of 25 years in the homeowners insurance business, they moved from Duluth, MN, in 2004 and started writing Olympus Insurance policies in 2008 – making Term Brokers one of Olympus’ oldest and most trusted partners.

Term Brokers is located in Ft. Walton Beach, and is licensed to do business across the state of Florida – but Jana and Chris focus primarily on residents of the Destin, Niceville, Ft. Walton Beach, and 30A communities. “We’re family run, and what makes us stand out is our attention to detail,” says Jana.

“We really get to know each one of our clients and provide them with that special touch that tells them, “You are family, too.” We focus on customer service, and on getting back to people the same day if at all possible. Insurance doesn’t have to be stressful, and we strive to bring color and friendliness to the industry – our motto is “Help is on the way! We have a new logo with a St. Bernard to reflect that – because their focus is on helping people, and that’s how we want to be perceived.”

Jana says that the biggest misconception about insurance is the coverage areas of each kind of policy.  “Homeowners don’t know what’s covered and what’s not under a standard policy – for example, most don’t realize that flood isn’t automatically covered and has to be addressed separately.”

Jana also touched on the biggest challenge facing Florida insurance agents:  Assignment of Benefits fraud. “AOB fraud is causing rate hikes because homeowners are signing away their rights to public adjusters – which penalizes carriers and agents, causing rates to rise,” Jana explained, adding that consumer education is key to solving the problem.

“Most people don’t understand how their insurance works,” she adds, referring to the problem faced by homeowner insurers across the state; a bad storm or other weather event occurs, damage is done, and when a contractor or roofer shows up, the homeowners often signs away their rights under their insurance policy, leading to inflated charges and fraud. “Call your insurance company first – they are here to help!”

Jana also mentioned the need to educate homeowners about what is and isn’t covered in a standard policy. “A standard policy covers certain types of claims, but people buy a policy and think it covers everything. It’s our job as agents to help make sure each homeowner gets the coverage they need.”

Whether it’s coverage for expensive personal items kept in the house, or coverage that correctly assesses risk based on location and flood zones Olympus consistently delivers. “We know Olympus is solid, stable, and here to stay.”

Jana and Chris say they write Olympus policies based on the company’s strength, the great coverages, and the amazing management team, claims team, underwriters, and customer service reps. “They make you feel like part of the Olympus team and not just a number but part of the family… we can go to them with anything. Claims handling is phenomenal – everyone is really happy with the process, the company, and the ease of making payments. Olympus is a lifelong partner, we will be with them always!”
